The following is a brief article describing some of the new products to be launched by Aqua Medic over the coming months, if there is anything that you are interested in then please mail us so we can advise you of the release date (when known).
For Planted Aquariums
CO2 reactor with integrated circulation pump is a similar product to the existing Reactor 500 which is designed to dissolve the CO2 into the aquarium water. This new model has a dedicated circulation pump making it independent of any filtration system. The pump has a power consumption of only 5watts but turns over 300lph. This system will ensure better mixing of gas and water which will conserve gas and lead to a more constant pH. This is one product that we will be using and a full review will follow once it is released.
Aqua peat granules. This is a pure and natural product designed to decrease the pH and hardness in freshwater aquariums. In addition the peat will also release humic and fulvic acids as well as trace elements into the aquarium. All this will help create the ideal conditions for soft water fishes (for example discus). These granules will be suitable for use in most type of canister or internal filter.
Aqua peat plates are the same as the peat granules so all the same comments apply, in addition the peat plates provide the perfect growing medium for aquatic plants.
For Marine Aquariums
Reef life calcium (previously only available with liquid trace and buffer tablets). This concentrated additive will raise the calcium content of the aquarium water (10ml will raise 100l of water by 17.5mg/l). Please note that calcium should only be used in conjunction with a suitable kH buffer to maintain the calcium/alkalinity balance in your aquarium.
Reef life KH buffer, previously only available in conjunction with liquid trace and calcium, this buffer will raise and stabilize the carbonate hardness levels in the aquarium, please note it is important to raise the carbonate hardness levels in conjunction with the calcium level to maintain the calcium/alkalinity balance of your aquarium.
Kalkwasserpowder, the addition of kalkwasser has many benefits in the marine aquarium, for example the calcium level is increased and if the KH is high enough then the phosphate concentration is reduced by precipitation. Kalkwasserpowder can be used in all kalkwasser reactors or added via top up water. Please note that it is very important to follow the instructions closely to avoid causing a problem in your aquarium. Available now.
Reef life magnesium. This supplement is used to replace the magnesium that is taken by many marine invertebrates and complements the other supplements offered by Aqua Medic.
Equipment
KS 1000 and KS 5000. These new kalk stirrers are used to replace evaporated water in the marine aquarium with calcium rich water, they are designed to be used with an auto-top-up device. There is not much to say about these as they are very similar to many other brands, and their operation is very simple.
BR1000. This is a bypass filter that can be connected to all sump based filter systems and is suitable for any media where best results are achieved at slow flow rates (for example carbon phosphate removers, peat, etc). The reactor holds up to 10l and can therefore be used to hold a variety of filter media if necessary.
Reefdoser (twin, triple and quad). An eagerly awaited product, these are a combination of 2,3 or 4 peri pumps and an electronic controller that allows each pump to be turned on and off for varying lengths of time at intervals ranging from seconds to days. This product has many uses from dosing supplements, medicines, feeding baby fish; feeding corals via live phyto plankton. A full review will be available once they are released.
Ozone generators. A range of machines that will produce from 25mg/h up to 300mg/h depending on model chosen. They look very similar to the sander units and may well be re-badged sander units in which case they will be very reliable, we await the pricing structure with interest.
Titanium heaters are the safe alternative to normal glass heaters for both fresh and salt water applications. The heaters are corrosion resistant and pretty much unbreakable. The heaters will be supplied with overheat and dry run protection cut outs, and will be available in the 6 sizes from 100W to 2000W, please note that they will require a separate thermostat to operate correctly.
Filter Media
Antiphos Fe. Tthis is a new media for removing phosphate from the aquarium water, this product is completely non-toxic to all aquatic life. The phosphate is bound irreversibly to the antiphos and is removed from the aquarium when the antiphos is changed, this is a very cost effective alternative to some of the better known phosphate removers, and is available now.
